It’s not a clear cut answer from visiting the website s and you should probably ,ap. The hiking is not terrific but the area is definitely worth a look. This trail is well marked and easy for the average hiker, but as others have stated, rough at times due to the volcanic rock depending on which return route you take – hiking boots are recommended.
Only four caves are open to the public with a free caving permit, obtainable at the park office or monumdnt center. Use extreme caution naitonal on lava terrain – it’s sharp and unstable!
