The protagonist learns about how to deal with her insecurities in the process. Janet is unnerved by a statue of the Lorelei, and as the day wears on she becomes convinced that one of her male classmates is missing. While there is an Enchanted Forest series story in this one Frying Pan of Doomthe real gems are the stand-alones.

Over the course of the series Cimorene fights wizards by dumping buckets of soapy water with a bit of lemon on them, making large quantities of cherries jubilee for patriciw, and giving Rumpelstiltskin’s great, great, great, great, great grandchild.

But this chilling tale of modern youths and ancient myths is one of the most compelling in the set. I love seeing the seeds of stories form, and watching them bloom into something bright and bold and eye-catching. Please provide an email address.

I remember looking at this book on Amazon a year or so ago and deciding not to get it, because I read a few reviews saying that this book is not for someone who is looking for more of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. I can’t believe it has taken so long to get around oc reading this.

Characters from her beloved Enchanted Forest series make an appearance in the final story, followed by a recipe for “Quick After-Battle Triple Chocolate Cake”, to be enjoyed warm while counting loot.

But help from the earth comes with a price. I’ve already reread most of the stories since yesterday. At midnight, she meets a strange woman who leads her to a garden of roses that can show her possible futures.

All previous exposure to short stories had been for school, of the “literary” variety. I just doubt that all possibilities in somebody’s life can be included in one garden, no matter how large. This enjoyable fantasy collection is comprised of 10 stories that vary patricix in tone and setting. Jun 28, Andrew rated it really liked it. Rikiki and the Wizard – lighthearted and amusing. The Sword-Seller – I didn’t remember this one at all. I think the Caliph needs to reconsider his whole attitude toward life. It’s not necessary to have read anything else set in these locales to appreciate either story I hadn’t at the time I read this collection, and still haven’t read any other Witch World fiction ; but in the enchanhments of the humorous “Utensile Strength,” spun off from Wrede’s own Enchanted Forest Chronicles https: Great deviation from regular fairy tales.


This was a book I read out loud to my wife, and she enjoyed it as much as I did! Patricia finished her first novel in late The Earthwitch has been getting glimpses of her next visitor’s plight but doesn’t quite know the whole story until he gets there.

Some printings of this book were marketed by their publishers to younger readers, some to adults; that’s indicative of the fact that she simply spins wholesome, engaging stories well to Wrede [pronounced as “Reedy”] is one of my favorite authors, and IMO one of the best writers of English-language fantasy fiction in her generation. Quick read but worth it- don’t pateicia the read the notes from the author for where she got her story ideas, super neat!
